The zodiac ( Greek zodiakos [kyklos], literally meaning "circle of little animals") is an imaginary belt (area) of the sky (heavens) in which the movements of the Sun, Moon and most of the planets take place. It is astrologically divided into twelve equal parts, each with a name and symbol. The twelve parts are connected with an exact time of year, where their associations are thought to describe, or affect various aspects of human life on Earth. The twelve divisions (constellations) are called signs of the zodiac. The twelve constellations from an eastward direction are: Aries (the Ram), Taurus (the Bull), Gemini (the Twins), Cancer (the Crab), Leo (The Lion), Virgo (the Virgin), Libra (the Scales), Scorpio (the Scorpion), Sagittarius (the Archer, Capricornus (the Sea Goat), Aquarius (the Water Bearer), and Pisces (the Fish).

This is also represented on a chart which links the twelve constellations to twelve divisions of the year. It is believed that these constellations or signs of the zodiac affect various aspects of our life on Earth, and is thought to influence our personalities. Thus, it is a tool used by astrologers to read, analyze, interpret and predict the future of our lives.
