Top Level Domains used in the US and their Meaning

Published Saturday, September 08, 2007

Have you ever come across weird domain extensions that caused you to wonder what they are or their purpose? Well, this could be due to two main reasons. Some domains are designated to specific countries while others indicate their purposes in some cases.

Here is a short list below of TLDs (Top Level Domains) that indicate their purpose and are used in the US. These domains no doubt provide webmasters a greater choice of name combinations to choose from. The .gov domain is only available to U.S. federal government and the . mil to the U.S. Dept of Defense. No individual, business or organization can register for these two domains.
