French is the language of France. It is a Romance language spoken not only in France but also in countries colonized by France - in Africa, the Caribbean and Oceania. The French language is also spoken in parts of Belgium, Switzerland, French Guiana, Indochina, Northwestern Africa, Haiti, parts of Canada and Madagascar.

Isn't Canadian French very different from regular French?
I've heard they were angry with the French subtitles, because it wasn't THEIR version of French.

Well, they differ in some respect in terms of their pronunciations of certain words and the kinds of slang that they use. All this is due to their cultural identity based on their geographical location.
