The United Nations (UN) is an international organization dedicated to promoting world peace, collective security and friendly relations among most of the world’s nations. This, they aim to achieve through co-operation between nations in international law, international security, economic development, social, cultural, and humanitarian issues.

The UN was officially established on 24 October 1945 at the end of World War II to protect and prevent future generations from the scourge of war that the world experienced in World War I and II. Presently, the organization has 192 Member States (member countries).

Countries around the World and their Capital City

A country’s capital is usually the principal city associated with a country's seat of government. Historically, the capital is usually the major economic center of a nation and the center of political power and thus, it is the one that the enemy usually captures first after invading a country. Capturing the capital is usually a military strategy that means defeat for the country being invaded since it guarantees capture of the government. Also, it is usually most the populous city attracting people from all classes and professions because it is the country’s cultural, social, economic, political and intellectual center. However,today, this not always the case for all capital cities, there are countries with unorthodox capital cities which are not the most populous cities or host to the seat of government. This may be due to pragmatic reasons or situations in that country. Some capital cities maybe unofficial while others official and they do not represent the seat of the government. So a capital city is not necessarily in few cases, the symbol for the state and its government. Here's a list of countries worldwide with their capitals below:
