List of countries by continent

Published Saturday, July 21, 2007

A continent is a large continuous mass of land that constitutes most of the dry land on the surface of the Earth. In other words, it is a large continuous mass of land (non-submerged) with geologically significant borders. There are seven continents: North and South America; Asia; Europe; Africa; Australia; Antarctica. All seven continents constitute about one-third of the earth's surface.

The list below shows the countries within six continents of the seven. Antarctica has no countries and is more of an international continent. Some countries have tried to claim parts of Antarctica as sovereign territory, however no true "territory" has been established on Antarctica.

you forgot palestine in Asia :)

I actually had to learn all this in a Globalization class... but sad to say, I only memorized it for the test; now most is gone from the ol' noggin'. :)

Hope all is well with you!

Thanks for the comment and for stopping by :)

Countries in this article are listed and recognized by the UN. Palestine is presently not a country. It has observer status at the United Nations. There are eight criteria which are used by the international community in determining if an entity is an independent country or not. Palestine does not pass all of these criteria. It is more likely known as the Palestinian territories (collectively the territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip).

Its nice to read your voice in your writing once again and to know that you are okay ! :) I'm okay, just hanging in there.

This is really a lot to memorize anyway you want to look at it. So it would be difficult to retrieve this information filed somewhere in your brain collecting cobweb now :)

Later.
